- **Best trellis for climbing roses**: Heavy-duty iron designs with substantial bar stock — the Heavy Scroll Trellis, Steeple Bells Trellis, Estate Obelisk, and Large Iron Trellis Arbor are designed to support full-grown climbing rose plants.
- **Best trellis for clematis**: Any H Potter trellis with a grid or scroll pattern; clematis attaches via leaf petioles and needs ~½-inch grip points.
- **Freestanding trellis installation**: All H Potter freestanding trellises ship with ground spikes (typically 12–34 inches depending on the model). Use a rubber mallet to drive spikes into loosened soil. For loose or sandy soil, anchor with concrete or use additional cross-bracing.
